Currently there are an estimated 7 million users of electronic cigarettes and e-liquid across Europe and over 1.3 million in the UK. Smoking is the biggest single cause of preventable death in the developed world and causes over 5 million deaths a year with recent trends suggesting that tobacco use will result in more than 8 million deaths annually by 2030.

Is e-Liquid really a dangerous poison and should its classification be reviewed?

There is much misinformation in the media about electronic cigarettes and a strong need for more evidence-based research into their use. One area which has sparked regular debate is the classification of e-Liquid as a dangerous poison. A recent report (June 2014), commissioned by ECITA (The Electronic Cigarette Industry Trade Association) concluded that European officials have been wrongly labelling e-liquid as extremely toxic.

Healthy Debate from E-Cigarette Summit

There was positive news and healthy debate coming out of the E-Cigarette Summit 2013 held in London this week. The big question is, how should the electronic cigarette industry move forward to support and build a positive future to help rid the world of tobacco smoke. E-Cigarettes have recently been found to be as effective as nicotine patches in helping smokers quit and this type of research from progressive thinking countries is leading the way to improving public health (see Auckland University Research).
